FAVORITE PROJECT?   The conversion of “Alianza G3” from bulk carrier to tanker. It was the second of the type in the world; the works took place in Angra dos Reis, a paradise on earth, and I had the most reliable assistant conceivable, Martín Vezjak.

WHAT FASCINATES YOU ABOUT SHIPS?  That they move in two fluids.
Take away one fluid, and you became a boring aeronautical engineer.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?  My father, my teachers, and hard working.

AN OBSESSION?  Excellence.

AN ANECDOTE?  There are anecdotes in every spot of the map, but this one represents how local culture can be so particular.

I was taking a long-distance bus in Angra dos Reis, back home after hard work in the Alianza G3. It was late and I was tired. Suddenly the driver arrives and starts a speech with everything that was forbidden in “his” bus. You smoke, I leave you in the middle of the road; you take of your shirt, I leave you in the road, you eat, … etc. etc. When he got to an end with his long list, I, from the end of the bus, told him “given you are so attached to rules, why don’t you depart my friend, you are 15 minutes late!” and he replied “do you Sir believe you are in London, well you are not in London, this is Brazil and I will depart whenever I feel like” and so he did.

FAVORITE PROJECT?   Beale Street Landing in Memphis, TN, USA. A fascinating river cruisers port and coastal park.

WHAT FASCINATES YOU ABOUT SHIPS?  Independence, autonomy, sailing…

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?  Those problems that require (or have required) ingenuity to be solved.

A HOBBY?  Fishing, Sailing, Diving & Golfing.

Meet Gabriel Gonzalo Avalle

Senior Surveyor, Head of the surveys area.

FAVORITE PROJECT?   Economical assessment of a fleet project to trade in the Hidrovía Paraná Paraguay.

WHAT FASCINATES YOU ABOUT SHIPS?  I love all about the ships, no matter the size of them, since the very early infancy.
Currently, facing a vessel´s casualty, I enjoy discovering its cause.

A HOBBY?  Sailing.

AN ANECDOTE?  Surveying an ore barge moored in the Paraná River, near to San Lorenzo Port, inside a dark wing tank I could see, in a corner, a little snake. I take a picture of it, as a funny think, and continue my inspection, as far of it as possible just in case.
When I saw the photograph, I discovered that the snake was a coral, a local viper, a serious killer. And it was ready to attack. We send the photograph attached to the invoice, to make sure the client understood we deserve our modest fees.
My torch now is almost a search light.

FAVORITE PROJECT?   AMADEO. It was my first work with this type of ship. What attracted me the most about this project was its complexity.

AN OBSESSION?  Tools, all of them.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?  My friends.

A HOBBY?  Running, gardening, taking care of the environment.

FAVORITE QUOTE?  Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice

Meet Gonzalo Remón

Naval architect and mechanical engineer (about to graduate)

WHAT FASCINATES YOU ABOUT SHIPS?  Its immensity and complexity.

A HOBBY?  Running, driving… anything that involves speed. Also crafting stuff.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?   The possibility of being better.

AN ANECDOTE?  I was aqua phobic (had fear of water) until I was 10 years old.

Meet Marina Cesaroni

Naval architect and mechanical engineer (advanced student)

FAVORITE PROJECT?   The conversion of the GALÚ. We worked with a classic Benetti yacht and converted it to a luxurious passenger vessel.

It was an amazing experience and I got to learn so much!

AN OBSESSION?  Besides ships, Racing Club (best football team in the world) and Harry Potter.

AN ANECDOTE?  I was 10 years old when my uncle took me to the Panama Channel, where he was the lead Engineer. That’s when I fell in love with ships.

WHAT FASCINATES YOU ABOUT SHIPS?  I would say everything, but I’m mainly interested in design, from the exterior lines to the very least of the interiors.

FAVORITE QUOTE?

Happiness is only real when shared.”
