lightening
vessels

Consulmar has been designing different type of lightening vessels since its commencement in business.

We have designed lightening vessels for grain, ore, petroleum by-products, with different handling equipment, for offshore and for inland waters operation. We have been responsible for the supervision of the operation of highly productive lightening vessels.

1

Alianza G2 – topoff and lightening river station – 1000th/hr

Alianza G2 is a lightening station suitable for loading, unloading, storage and weighing of grains. It can operate with barges or ocean-going vessels simultaneously or not. She has two loading lines 500 tn/hr each.
We upgraded this lightening station by designing and fitting large hoppers for the reception of grain, in line batch scales and loading booms. Cranes and services (power) remained as originally fitted.

2

Alianza G3 – Lightening offshore tank barge.

This ocean-going barge was converted from bulk carrier to a product tanker specially fitted to carry out offshore lightening operations in the Outer River Plate area. She was the first double hull designed and operating in Argentina. She had one 750 m3 deep well Framo pump in each of the five 8900 m3 cargo tanks.

3

Zonda I – Offshore lightening Vessel.

A unique system was designed for this lightening vessel. In the first stage, three 30t/30m marine electric cranes were installed on the starboard side of the iron ore carrier to both load and unload the cargo holds. In the second stage, loading booms that comprised the reception hoppers were fitted on the port side to add the capability of working in direct transferring, without storage.

Other cases:

We have intervened in numerous jobs of this type, not only in Argentina, but also in Brazil and in the USA.

  • Princess Fátima – Product tankers converted into crude carrier.
  • Karinas/Alianza G1 – Side cranes were fitted for lightening operations.
  • Iron ore unloading/loading system (for port operation) – Telestackers were adapted to operate afloat, from barges to the ocean going ore carrier. The design was submitted for approval. All detail engineering was carried out.
  • Hoppers for single operation use – Taylor made hoppers designed for this special operation.
  • Sudestada – Ore carrier – Lightening grain (vacuum system).
  • Cape Size tanker – to FPSO (feasibility).
  • Cape Size tanker – to iron ore self unloader (feasibility).
